The Rote Burg Retreat Centre
The Future of Buddhist Practice in the North of Berlin

We are embarking on a bold journey to convert the historic site of the „Rote Burg“ (the „Red Castle“) in the north of Berlin into a vibrant place for deepening Buddhist practice. It’s a bold vision that will enable the Berlin sangha and the whole Triratna community throughout Europe to meet in a unique retreat place in the embrace of nature.

Since acquiring this extraordinary site in the summer of 2020, we have been working tirelessly with visionary architects, engineers and expert planners to make this dream a reality. We have planning permission in place since August 2024 and a bank loan contract was signed in May 2026. We are on the cusp of realising this vision. In the next two years the physical creation of the Rote Burg will unfold, an ambitious project driven by our shared passion for Buddhist practice.

The good news: We have recently been able to secure a bank loan and building work is planned to start very soon!

Two beautiful red brick buildings, with 960 square metres of well-planned space, set in four hectares of rich meadows and stately oak forest. This is a living, breathing hub for spiritual growth, connection and deep transformation that can accommodate up to 60 practitioners in an environment that inspires to go deeper in one's Buddhist practice.

But: We still need 160.000€ in donations and 393.000€ in private loans by September this year to ensure that the building work can be finished.

Our plan is simple:

We have divided the building work into three phases. We will start with phase one now as we already have the means. We will use this time of building work to fundraise for the remaining donations and private loans.

In order to avoid a delay between phase 1 and phase 2 and thererfore higher costs, we will need to receive the remaining donations and private loans until September this year. This is a tight schedule, but we are positive that we can achieve this with the support of our wider community.
