Buddha Day Festival

Buddha Day Festival

Sunday 10 May 2026 10am – 5:30pm

“The ideal of enlightenment is the highest ideal that human beings can conceive. […] Like all other methods for increasing awareness – like all other paths to realising the ideal of the enlightened person – meditation can be practised most effectively within the context of a spiritual community, that is, in a free association of individuals in the true sense of the word: individuals who are united by their commitment to a common goal and who relate to one another first and foremost on the basis of this commitment.”   Sangharakshita

On this day we celebrate the Buddha’s enlightenment.
We remember how Siddhartha awakened to perfect wisdom and deep compassion, thereby bringing a completely new consciousness into the world.
Since then, he has been called ‘Buddha’ – the ‘Awakened One’.

The Buddha was a human being just as we are. We carry the same potential within us. Through an intensive Dharma life, we too can achieve this profound transformation of consciousness. Enlightenment means seeing things as they really are, and living mindfully, clearly and compassionately in the here and now.

The day includes meditation, stories from the life of the Buddha, a communal lunch buffet, a ‘Skills Auction’ for Rote Burg, and a festive puja with Mitra ceremonies.
We look forward to celebrating this special day together.
